Moz offers SEO software and tools to the digital marketing industry and is well known for its metrics like Domain Authority, Page Authority and MozTrust. Recently Moz updated its metrics with Domain Authority Version 2.0 on 5th March 2019. Domain Authority ( DA) Metric is commonly used by search marketers, SEO and digital marketing agency to make smarter decisions about search engine marketing agencies.
Moz offers API for its metrics both free and paid versions. Free Moz API is used by Small SEO tools providers to check Moz metrics like DA, PA, Moz trust etc. Most Moz checker tools are run on free API which offers 25000 rows a month with request rates of one request per ten seconds.
Moz has changed the Freemium Mozscape API plan from 31st March 2019 as below
- Free Moz API can be used only if you verify your account with credit cards. Moz requires valid credit card details to set up your free API plan. This is done to avoid fraud and misuse of the free offer. Your credit card will be charged by Bank with $1 authentication to ensure its validity and this will be instantly refunded. This is different from the Moz Pro free trial which will automatically renew if you don’t cancel renewal during your trial.
- The number of row free API returns each month is reduced from 25000 pm to 2500 pm a straight reduction of 90%. However, there is no change in request rate which is the same 10 one request per ten seconds.
Moz says that these updates are going to affect free API plan active user interactions with API. Moz supports their changes with a claim that they invested significantly in the quality of link data and metrics over the past year.
Moz now considers that its metrics are quite popular and all Moz tools operators and digital marketing agencies have no option except to buy API and increase Moz Business.
Most affected websites will be those offering free Moz metrics checker and bulk Moz metric tools. Moz’s 90% reduction from 25000 to 2500 rows per month is too much and going to close most of the Free Moz metrics checker tools.
